Change of time Winter / Summer, March 31st, 2019 in France !

The transition from winter time to daylight saving time will take place on the night of Saturday, March 30th to Sunday, March 31st. We will, in France, then lose 1 hour of sleep, at 2 o’clock in the morning, so it will be 3 o’clock in the morning. And the Sun will sleep 1 hour later, from Sunday, March 31st.

The change of time was thought and put in place in France in 1975, this for reasons of energy saving, following the oil shock of 1973.

The change of time is questioned. Indeed, the hourly change is not without consequence on the daily. Shift of one hour has consequences at the biological or sanitary level especially for children and for the elderly.

A citizen consultation was launched by the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly. The survey mobilized the French: in all, the Commission received 2 103 999 replies between 4 February and 3 March 2019. As a result, 83.71% of the French would like to end the time changes twice a year.  16.29% of French would like to keep the 2 changes of time twice a year. And if the change of time is abolished, 59.17% of the French would prefer to stay in summer time, 36.97% would like to stay on the winter time and 3.86% are without notice. These results must now be forwarded to the Brussels institutions: the European Parliament and the European Commission.

However, we must go towards European harmonisation, and this is not easy! We need to coordinate! The Transport Commission of the European Parliament has asked that if the timetable changes end, this reform should only enter into practice from 2021. Especially for European transport or for transborder, in order to take the time to agree the different European States.

Radio controlled clocks are always their reason for being! AIC International offers a nice range of controlled and automatic radio clocks (equipped with a DST movement) under the Orium® brand. The change of time is done thanks to these clocks, automatically, without making any manipulation. At 2 o’clock in the morning in the night from Saturday to Sunday, the time will change automatically and it will then be 3 o’clock in the morning, without touching the clock! In addition, radio controlled clocks are a very good reliability and precision! In fact, throughout the year, the clocks equipped with this movement are based on the exact time, thanks to the waves emitted by the Atomic antenna of Frankfurt.
